5 Things to Consider When Booking a Photographer

If there is one thing you take away from this blog it’s this - MEET your photographer in person. This will show you their communication dynamic and a sense of their personality! You can meet them through a cozy coffee date or via online video chat.

Here’s a list of things to look for when speaking to your potential wedding photographer.

  1. Ease of Communication

Was it easy and mostly flawless communicating with your photographer before meeting in real life? Usually, it’s a good sign when the process of contacting a photographer is seamless. This is a glimpse into how strong communication with them will be throughout the entire process of booking their services to receiving your wedding album.

  2. Personality Compatibility

Most people don’t even think about a photographer’s personality when booking. BUT it’s so important for both the client and the photographer. Photographers are the one wedding vendor that you will continue working with after the wedding. Make sure you all can share a laugh and communicate clearly!

  3. Photographer’s Photographic Style

Make sure to ask your photographer how they photograph. Do they like to pose you or do they prompt you? What’s the difference? Posing is your basic instructions of “put your hand here, here, here and now tilt your head like this”. Prompting is when a photographer has you “act out” a scenario or give you a few ideas that you can easily tweak on the spot. Prompting, in my opinion, is a thousand times better. It creates a fun experience for clients while producing natural + candid photos.

  4. Investment Guide

An investment guide is a type of brochure in the wedding industry. Being able to see a comprehensive investment guide can alleviate any stress of asking several questions through endless emails. Plus, it shows your photographer is detail oriented and truly wants to provide you with all the information you’ll need, which I say leads to a better client experience. The investment guide should state their wedding collections and all FAQs.

  5. Bride Guide

A bride guide is a simple guide that tells you exactly what to expect throughout the entire process of working with the photographer; this way you are never in the dark. It’s okay if a photographer doesn’t have this available. If it’s not available refer back to #1.

What would I look for in my OWN wedding photographer?

I think bullet points 1-3 are extremely important!
