A Summer Garden wedding in The netherlands

From the moment I received their inquiry, I knew this couple’s wedding day was going to be an absolute dream to document! The bride had a clear vision for how she wanted every detail of her big day to unfold. When she shared her mood board with me, I was sold! During our initial video call, she described her dream wedding using words like colorful, whimsical, elegant, modern and an English-Style Garden Wedding. “Think Alice in Wonderland,” she said.

Their venue choice was perfect and even held sentimental value. They decided to celebrate their wedding day in the lush garden of the bride’s childhood home in Holland (the Netherlands). It was gorgeous and so well-kept! You were welcomed by large, lush trees, flower bushes and beds, vegetable gardens and a large natural pond that had you thinking you stepped into a storybook.

The morning of the wedding was filled with heartfelt moments and thoughtful details. The bride looked stunning in her dreamy Nicole Milano wedding dress — one of the most ethereal dresses ever and it was perfectly paired with the prettiest pink Jimmy Choo wedding shoes, adding a touch of whimsy to her elegant look. The groom was equally dashing in a classic navy blue suit from Michael Giso.

One of my favorite moments of the wedding day was the bride’s first look with her dad. The moment he turned around to see her was one of pure emotion—laughter, tears, and a long, tight embrace that spoke volumes. I even got a little emotional!

Soon after, she shared another first-look moment with the groom. When he saw her, his face lit up with joy and awe. The two shared a quiet, intimate moment before the day’s festivities began in full swing.

The ceremony was held in the very heart of the garden, surrounded by vibrant blooms and greenery. Guests gathered in a semi-circle, creating an intimate and heartfelt atmosphere as the couple exchanged vows between a moon-shaped floral design which was made custom by the bride’s Dad and Aunt. The moment they were officially pronounced husband and wife their family gifted them a pair of white doves to release into the air - a touching nod to Dutch wedding traditions. Then the guests showered them in colorful confetti as they walked down the aisle for their grand exit. It was one of the BEST wedding grand exits I’ve ever photographed. Everyone was smiling, cheering - it was an amazing moment!

After the ceremony, the celebration continued with an al fresco dinner along a stunning long tablescape that bordered a section of the garden. Adorned with playful floral arrangements, pastel linens, and glowing candles, the table was as inviting as it was beautiful. To add an extra touch of charm, the couple booked a local pizza company that brought their ovens on-site to make fresh pizzas for the guests— a nice detail that added a relaxed feel.

Another highlight of the day was the custom backdrop the bride alongside her family had strung between the trees for portraits. They used a soft, white fabric that created an ethereal setting for their couple photos and family photos. It also doubbled as the backdrop for the photo booth the couple had rented for their guests to enjoy.

Once the sun set, the garden transformed into this charming and romantic setting where the string lights, candles and lanterns glowed creating a romantic feel. The night ended with heartfelt family speeches, a sweet first dance and an impromptu dance party.

Truly one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve had the honor to photograph. Thank you Sterre and Dennis for having us! Your wedding will always be one that will inspire us!
